The Reading test is made up of three parts.
- The first section has 7-8 questions over the vocabulary words of the week. These can be found in the “Family Times” letter and students will receive a vocabulary book on Tuesdays that they can also use to help them “study.”The vocabulary book will always be completed together in class. The students’ job is to record information that will help them remember the meaning of the word as we spend time discussing it.
- The second section typically has 5-7 questions over the phonics skill of the week. The best way they can “study” for this portion of the test is to simply participate in our in class activities each day as we review and practice this skill.
- The final section of the test is based on comprehension. The students will be given a reading passage that they have never seen. After independently reading the passage, they will be expected to answer questions about the passage. The best way to “study” for this part of the test is to read anything every night for about 20-30 minutes.
When are Spelling & Reading Tests given?
Spelling and Reading tests will be given on each Friday. If we happen to have a four day week, we may not have a test that week or the test may be held on a day other than Friday. The students should record that information on their assignment sheet as it occurs.
